Mary

Mother of Jesus – Christmas 2018

Mary

++++++++++

In a time when peace was sought
And unsettled hearts were bought
By the sword of Roman rule
Lived a quiet godly young girl
Favoured by God above
Betrothed to Joseph and in love
When an angel came to tell
‘Rejoice Mary, all is well,
For the Lord is with you.’
Mary thought these words through
In trepidation and fear of the unknown
She questioned the angel and asked to be shown
The meaning of these words spoken
And she heard the answer to what sin had broken
A Son, a King a blessed Man of grace
A child she will hold, love and embrace
Whose kingdom will never end
God’s Son, perfect man and our only true Friend
Not known by a man in her earthly life
As she had not yet become Joseph’s wife
Mary was to become a mother in God’s way
A task and a promise given to her on that very day
And she obediently listened
Through eyes that glistened
The Holy Spirit’s seed was sown
Ahead was a life time, full of the unknown
Yet Mary’s soul rejoiced and did magnify
As she spoke of her God and why
Of His mighty work in her that He has done
A lowly human state for His only beloved Son
His mother she was to be
And so she waited patiently
With Joseph lovingly by her side
A decree was cried
Bethlehem was where they were to go
Heavily pregnant and uncomfortably so
They travelled the journey
Slowly, carefully and obediently
Through this God given task and a promise
God filled her with His quiet calmness
And so Mary was assured through her painful cries
God’s Son was born, as prophesied
For this Child was born in the lowliest of places
Yet her heart knew what Gods love and grace is
She sought to trust Him every step of the way
Not knowing what would happen each new day
Mary’s earthly example is what we gracefully can be
As chosen and loved by God, more than we are able to see
In this, God has given us the ultimate favoured One
His beloved and most precious only Son
Perfectly favoured and perfectly sought
Obedient in all that He did and wrought
To remove the ugly stain of our sin
So we can remain just, righteous and holy before Him
He was born for Gods glory that blesses us
For in our whole lives, we now can only, humbly trust
In pain, grief, suffering and fears
And though life’s struggles, difficulties and tears
We can be like Mary, walking by faith and not by sight
For God is holding our hands too, with His love, strength and might.
