Mankind

Mankind

———

My heart hurt so badly and it left me feeling ashamed,

bewildered and cold.

I wrapped my blanket around myself,

searching for the warmth that was missing,

in what I just saw.

I never found it.

That hurt.

It hurt in ways many would understand,

understandably so,

but it also hurt in ways that many wouldn’t understand

or even care to understand,

and really, why should they.

Racism divides with a hatred that is evil.

I have seen it,

I have lived amongst it

and I have visually experienced it,

with a judge deeming these hate filled words and deathly actions,

as

not

racism.

So what really is racism?

I have no answers,

other than this statement;

I wish it didn’t exist.

I read the scriptures

and know all mankind is made in Gods image.

I see the holy words written there,

in black and white ink.

Clearly outlined.

I believe what I read

and I trust what I read,

right there,

in the pages of old.

Those words are the Truth.

Yet,

I read the anger outside these pages,

on screens that flicker.

You know the ones,

they fade in and out.

The ones where truth is distorted.

The ones where we get to see only what we are meant to see,

only what we are meant to hear,

which then becomes

the only truth.

I watch the videos

and I see the comments

of righteous or unrighteous anger,

whichever way you look at it

and I am left wondering.

Really wondering, at how society has been

mumbling and yelling,

passively blind,

for so long.

You know, where people blur the lines,

to suit themselves,

in any circumstances it chooses.

I hold my loved ones hand

and am thankful for his heart,

that wears the uniform

that promises to serve and protect.

At the same time I pray for all the families,

and that justice is served,

in God’s timely and ordained way.

And just maybe,

we all need to leave the courtroom

of flickering screens with distorted truths,

and spend more time prayerfully pleading,

for answers,

to clear lines,

of truth and justice that honours,

all mankind.
